  Curry Barker does a phenomenal job in his directorial debut. The clever uses of lighting, the square 1.50:1 to create this sense of claustrophobia, the sound design, the sudden needle drops, the creepy dialogue all contribute to making Obsession scary without just being reliant on jump scares! Inde Navarrette’s performance deserves absolute praise with the way she moves and the delivery of her lines. She scared me more than any other horror movie monster! Obsession is a terrific film with a fascinating idea that is executed wonderfully to give a surprisingly layered psychological horror film!

  The Odyssey is an epic fantasy action film written and directed by Christopher Nolan. It is an adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic poem of the same name. Nolan is one of those directors who I am willing to watch anything they do. Considering the amazing films he directed such as The Prestige, Inception, Interstellar, The Dark Knight trilogy and Oppenheimer. I was absolutely hyped for The Odyssey! However, the film suffered a lot of backlash, even before release. Many complained of the casting choices, the costume design not being historically accurate and the modernized dialogue. Are the backlash justified or is the final product better than the complaints? Let’s talk about one of the big controversial stuff, the cast.   Sadly, it is a bit of step-down from the first film. It’s got some pacing issues, it’s a bit too long, the melodrama with the sister isn’t that interesting and the 3rd act is not as strong. However, you still get funny moments with some enjoyable gore and violence. Samara is great and the supporting cast is enjoyable enough. Plus Samara Weaving in a black Wedding Dress just does something for me

  Ready or Not is an excellent dark comedy thriller about a Satanic rich family hunting down Samara Weaving! It has funny moments with excentric characters that is balanced out by the gore and violence. The entire cast does a great job with an awesome main lead performance from Samara. It’s just a fun entertaining movie! Plus Samara Weaving in a Wedding Dress in a pair of Converse just does something for me

  This is an insanely bonkers and absurd 90-minutes of fun! It has some incredibly top-notch action set pieces with over-the-top violence and gore that just makes this an entertaining watch! Yeah the film is a bit tonally over the place and there are some pacing issues but with a short run-time, it never overstays its welcome. Recommend going into this blind for full enjoyment!

  The visuals are phenomenal with a wonderful practical set design and lighting that really illustrates the surreal nature of the backrooms. The cinematography and editing is also top-notch and captures the claustrophobic environment. The writing is where the problems lie though. The characters are quite under-developed, the plot is very minimal, and the 3rd act of the film is a bit of a drag with a weak ending. Still, for a directorial debut, this is extremely promising!

  Sam Raimi turns a very predictable story into an entertaining two-hour flick. He injects many of his signature quirks such as the dark comedy, visceral horror, gruesome gore, and a kinetic filmmaking style which elevate the film. Rachel McAdams delivers a terrific, layered performance as the lead. She begins as someone awkward and cringy but gradually evolving into someone genuinely menacing and unhinged. The highlight of the film is the tension between her character and Dylan O’Brien’s. Despite all this, the film feels somewhat tame and isn’t among Raimi’s most memorable works. Still, it’s enjoyable enough that you’ll leave feeling you had a good time.

  Liam Neeson plays an authentic 70-year-old man with a bad back. It’s admirable to see him give a more believable performance for someone of his age. The rest of the film is okay with some light chuckles and gory moments. It never takes itself too seriously, leading to a mildly enjoyable popcorn flick.    

  I was interested to see how they would adapt an indie game with no real plot into a film. In the first act, it felt like they accurately captured the eerie, claustrophobic psychological terror of the endlessly looping subway. The film draws the audience in by having them scan for anomalies, just like the main character. There’s also strong tension in watching him struggle with his asthma while trying to escape. However, this is largely lost from the second act onwards, as the film shifts toward being more character-driven and leans into a metaphor for fatherhood. The tension and sense of terror fade, and even the asthma subplot is completely forgotten. While the execution isn’t great, the film is still well-made, with excellent camerawork. It’s not overly long and is generally an enjoyable 90 minutes.

  Primate is a gory and tense horror film with the fun concept of a Pet Chimpanzee going crazy because it has rabies. The use of an actor with a practical costume for the Chimpanzee does massive wonders for the film. The costume is incredible and the kills are very brutal! What really brings this film down is the stupidity of the characters. They will not have one person keep their eye on the Chimpanzee or sometimes just stand around instead of HELPING or RUNNING AWAY! It can be ridiculously frustrating to watch and to a point where you just sort of root for them to die. Nonetheless, a decent 90-minute film that doesn’t overstay its welcome!

  28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is the fourth entry in the 28 Days Later film series and the second in the 28 Years Later trilogy. I did enjoy aspects of the previous entry, 28 Years Later, but I admit that I came away feeling somewhat disappointed. With this next installment not being directed by Danny Boyle but instead by Nia DaCosta, I had some concerns. Were these worries unfounded, or is this a worthy sequel? There are two main plotlines: the Jimmy Gang and Dr. Ian’s research. The tonal-whiplash cliffhanger involving the “Jimmy Gang” from the previous film had me concerned, particularly with how ridiculous they initially appeared. However, this film succeeds in making the Jimmy Gang feel genuinely disturbing and threatening. There is a strong focus on one of the gang’s raids on a human settlement, and it results in a truly unsettling sequence of scenes. This contrasts sharply with Dr. Ian, who returns as a much more prominent character in this entry and anchors...

  Who knew that a series in 2016 about a group of very larger-than-life characters dealing with weird things in their town would be the start of such a phenomenal show? It has been three years since the jarring cliffhanger of Stranger Things Season 4, and the show is now coming to an end with its final season. Will it stick the landing, or will it unfortunately become another Game of Thrones situation? In terms of what this season does well, I enjoyed that Will actually has a lot more to do. Despite being a very important character in Seasons 1 and 2, he sort of had little to nothing to do in Seasons 3 and 4. He also has a proper bonding moment with Robin that I genuinely enjoyed and found very heartwarming. Jonathan was a character butchered in Season 4 by turning him into a lame pothead.
