  The Prosecutor is an interesting film, as it’s actually a legal-focused thriller first and foremost, with the martial arts action coming second. I found this blend of genres to work surprisingly well, and I give Donnie props for trying something different. The movie features a phenomenal opening action sequence and an incredible climactic one too. When it comes to the action scenes, you definitely won’t be disappointed. However, the legal aspect—which makes up the majority of the film—is unfortunately a bit lacklustre and predictable. I wish the courtroom scenes had explored more of the complexities of the justice system and delivered more intense drama. It didn’t help that the villain was incredibly one-dimensional. Still, it’s an entertaining action movie overall, and this film does show that Donnie knows how to handle action.

  Director Benny Chan’s last outing due to unfortunately passing away, is a fun martial art flick. Raging Fire has amazing and stylish fight choreograph that are exhilarating. Additionally, a great performance from both Donnie Yen and Nicholas Tse with the intense rivalry of their characters. However, the story and characterization is bare bone with the movie having moments of slow pacing due to long expositions and overuse of flashbacks. The movie did not need to be 2 hours. It also has a slight clash of tone as the first half of the film has action set piece that feel grounded and gritty. The second half then starts having these really cartoony action scenes that make it feel like a completely different movie. Nevertheless, it’s an enjoyable martial popcorn flick that will definitely keep you entertained for it’s run time.

  I have recently been rewatching the Ip Man series to see if my opinions would change in anyway. I’ve just recently finished Ip Man 4: The Finale and I have to say my opinion has not change whatsoever. So with my rewatching done, it is time for me to rank my top 5 Ip Man movies.  My Review: Review of IP Man 4 Yeah this is going to be very controversial but my least favorite Ip Man movie is the latest and final one. The fights are okay but no where near as good as previous entries and I believe this is due to the fact that most of the fights are just in open areas which makes it feel very generic.   When I first watched this movie, I remember not liking it and feeling rather disappointed with it which is the opposite of how I felt when I watched IP Man 2. However, after re-watching this movie I came out rather appreciating it and enjoying it way more than I expected. Sammo Hung who was the action director of the first two IP Man film does not return for the third one. Instead, IP Man 3 has Woo-Ping Yuen as the new action director who has a lot of martial art movies to his belt such as Kung fu Hustle and Kill Bill so the action was still in safe hands. One of the things I felt about IP Man 2 that was rather off-putting was the very cartoony style of fighting and overuse of wire works. I can safely say that in IP Man 3 it returns to the more grounded and realistic style of the first movie. This movie also expands upon the use of environments for the action scenes.   I remember watching Ip Man 2 and loving it after watching it. Now after rewatching it again, I came out feeling rather different than the first time I watched it. Starting with what this movie improves upon is the much bigger action. Sammo Hung returns as the choreographer for this movie but also as a new character “Hung Chun-nam” who is an arch-nemesis of sort and rival for IP man. For example, in the first film IP man fights 10 people but what if fought dozens of them or the fight against the martial artist on the table. These fights are exciting, thrilling and very creative such as in the fight with the use of the environment and wooden board to create interesting choreography. The introduction of western boxing against Chinese martial art makes for an amazing fight and Sammo Hung utilize both styles in a great way for fluidity vs brutality.   Hard to believe that this iconic martial art franchise started 12 years ago and launched Donnie Yen straight into fame for Western audience. The film is based on the life story of Yip Man, the first person to teach the Chinese martial art of Wing Chun and Bruce Lee’s trainer. This film focuses on his struggles during WWII where Japan invaded China. Let’s start with what made this movie so popular in the first place, the fight scenes. The choreography is done by the legendary Sammo Hung who manages to craft a a variety of amazing fight scenes in this movie. Every fight in this movie feels different from one another yet exciting and memorable.
