Novocaine has a fun concept, with the main character, Nate, living with CIPA, a condition that prevents him from feeling pain. For the most part, the movie makes good use of this premise. During the action scenes, Nate does unconventional things, like putting his hand in a deep fryer or grabbing a scorching hot pan. These moments lead to some entertaining action sequences.
Beyond that, though, the film doesn’t offer much else. The plot is bare-bones, the characters are uninteresting, and the romance feels weak. Still, if you’re in the mood for a light, popcorn flick, this is a pretty decent watch.
