A “QUICK!” Review of “The Martian (2015)”

Even when rewatching this film, I had an absolute blast! The Martian is one of the most phenomenal films to come from Ridley Scott. The writing is exception, the acting is great, the visuals are stunning, the music score is great, the science is easily digestible and the characters are all very distinct despite being over a dozen characters. You root for Matt Damon’s character, Mark Watney, to survive. You root for the science team to create the plan to get him home. I enjoyed the science and I enjoyed how it was a collaborative effort from all the characters. Easily one of the best sci-fi films in modern cinema!

A Review of “Jurassic World Rebirth (2025)”

Jurassic World Rebirth is somehow the seventh entry in the Jurassic franchise. After the massively disappointing and downright abysmal Jurassic World Dominion (2022), it felt like time to let the franchise rest. However, considering it made over $1 billion, the studio was never going to let it die, and now we have another installment. The only redeeming news, in my opinion, was that Colin Trevorrow was no longer involved. Instead, we have Gareth Edwards, director of Godzilla (2014) and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016). So, does this bring new life to the franchise, or should it have remained extinct? To start with the positives: the dinosaur set pieces are genuinely enjoyable. There’s a horror-movie-style sequence in the opening, a thrilling Jaws-like moment involving the Mosasaur at sea, and a fun finale set piece that echoes the spirit of the original film. The standout set piece, however, is easily the tense and terrifying T-Rex scene involving a raft. Scarle...

A Review of “Fallout (2024)”

For video games adapted to movies or shows, I usually have extensive knowledge as I am a fan of the game itself. Fallout is different as I have not ever played the games. This meant that this show was a unique experience for me as I was now coming in from a non-fan perspective. Does this show succeed in pulling in newcomers? Firstly, the world itself is interesting. The post-apocalyptic world is visually stunning thanks to the phenomenal cinematography. They managed to capture a weirdly unfound beauty of the world but also contrast this with the ugly nature of human beings. We see how humans on the surface survive through these towns or the cruel activities they do. We also see factions such as the Brotherhood who try for some order on the surface and people who become ghouls after becoming mutated by the radiation. The monster designs are creepy and disgusting which is what makes them great. Some humans have also survived by going into vaults underground. The myst...

A “QUICK!” Review of “Abigail (2024)”

Abigail has such a ridiculous yet fascinating premise and completely succeeds in delivering it.  The characters are all pretty flat and one dimensional but they are carried by the great cast and writing. The constant tension between them all and the charismatic performances elevate the story. Alisha Weir is one of the most phenomenal child actors I’ve seen as her performance as Abigail is stellar!  This is such a fun, entertaining film. The gore is enjoyable and the comedy works well. The 3rd act is a little messy but it does have a pretty heartfelt conclusion. I highly recommend avoiding any marketing for this one!

A “QUICK!” Review of “65 (2023)”

I love Dinosaurs I also love Sci-Fi However, this Dinosaur and Sci-Fi movie doesn’t work. There is barely any plot, barely any character depth, and a severe lack of dialogue. I don’t know why the writer made the characters unable to speak the same language because it just hinders the character interactions. They don’t even explain what mission our main character was on and why the girl was there. It also has a lot of questionable things such as why a futuristic ship couldn’t sense an asteroid belt, yet the main character has a sensor that works great on the ground. The director and writer don’t make us care enough about anything. So you should not care to watch this.

A “QUICK!” Review of “Fall (2022)”

If you ignore the fact that this movie’s premise wouldn’t have happened if the characters acted like normal human beings and notified someone the dangerous place they were going beforehand. The movie is genuinely quite tense and thrilling, with some impressive camera shots. It does unfortunately have clumsy dialogue, weak acting, dumb melodrama and a very predictable plot. The moral of the story: Get better friends that are not Hunter…

A “QUICK!” Review of “Beast (2022)”

I came in to see Idris Elba punch a Lion I came out wishing he would punch his kids

A “QUICK!” Review of “Thirteen Lives (2022)”

I was always aware of the Thai Cave rescue but I never truly understood the challenge that the people faced during the rescue. This film succeeds in giving me an appreciation for everyone involved in this rescue. Ron Howard delivers a gripping dramatization of the story and manages to keep it suspenseful, despite knowing the resolution. I also appreciate that the movie isn’t just about the British Cavers and that the movie gives a lot of focus to what the Thai people die as well. It also helps that all the actors from Viggo, Colin to the Thai actors, give a great performance. Thirteen Lives is a great retelling of the rescue and I highly recommend it.
