A Review of “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024)”

I am honestly glad we are getting more movies in the Monsterverse. The movies have been amazing or anything but they have been thoroughly entertaining. After Godzilla vs Kong, we are getting a team-up movie with Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Does this continue to be entertaining, or is this finally the entry that bores you? You came to this movie for big monsters fighting and in this aspect, the movie succeeds. There are a great many fight scenes in this movie, especially with Kong. I love the way Kong fights and how you can clearly see how he is strategizing and planning compared to Godzilla’s ferocious animalistic style. They also created a new villain for Kong with “The Scar King”. I love the design of him and his more agile style of fighting. The movie builds up to an epic 3rd act brawl and it is insanely entertaining and worth watching for it alone. The CGI is pretty good considering that this is the cheapest MonsterVerse movie so far. Hollow Earth looks gr...

A Review of “Godzilla Minus One (2023)”

Godzilla Minus One is a standalone Godzilla movie from Japan. It brings the franchise back to its roots where Godzilla is a monstrous force of nature, an allegory of war. While I do love the Western Monsterverse franchise, it is mostly for seeing Godzilla or Kong fight another giant monster. The writing and characters have never been a highlight in that universe. Does Godzilla Minus One deliver more than the Monsterverse? Firstly, Godzilla’s design is spectacularly frightening, his roar is menacing and his heat rays are some of the best and most impactful blasts I’ve seen from Godzilla. Every Godzilla action set piece is terrifying and tense. I love how these sequences are filmed from a human perspective, so we get to truly see the scale and how dangerous Godzilla is. The music score by Naoki Sato is phenomenal! His subtle orchestral score compliments the scene and illustrates the pain and struggles that Japanese people in WW2 went through. He then uses a strong pow...

A Review of “Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)”

The movie that the entire Monsterverse was building up towards has come out. The premise is “Kong and his protectors undertake a perilous journey to find his true home. Along for the ride is Jia, an orphaned girl who has a unique and powerful bond with the mighty beast. However, they soon find themselves in the path of an enraged Godzilla as he cuts a swath of destruction across the globe. The initial confrontation between the two titans – instigated by unseen forces – is only the beginning of the mystery that lies deep within the core of the planet”. So does it live up to the massive hype or fails to deliver? Firstly, the fight scenes between the two titular characters are amazing. The director, Adam Windgard succeeds in giving an epic brawl between the two and showing their distinct fighting styles. Godzilla has this brutal, animalistic and force of nature style that just demolishes everything compared to Kong’s more cunning and agile is just a sight to behold. Th...

A Review of “Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)”

In anticipation of Godzilla vs Kong, I’ve decided to rewatch all the previous Monsterverse movies. The second Godzilla movie had an amazing trailer with the Clair de Lune orchestral song. It still is one of the best trailers to come out in a long time. The trailer was so good that I decided to watch this movie in the theatre on day one in IMAX. However, I came out of it with a mixed thought towards it. The premise is “Members of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species-thought to be mere myths rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance”. So has my feelings towards the movie changed or do I still have the same mixed thoughts? The biggest praise I have is that they used Godzilla monsters from Japanese movies. The MUT...

A Review of “Godzilla (2014)”

In anticipation of Godzilla vs Kong, I’ve decided to rewatch all the previous Monsterverse movies. I’ve watched this when it first came out in Cinemas and I came out slightly disappointed. Now that I decided to finally rewatch it after 7 years, I wonder if my opinions will change or not? The premise is “Ford Brody (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), a Navy bomb expert, has just reunited with his family in San Francisco when he is forced to go to Japan to help his estranged father, Joe (Bryan Cranston). Soon, both men are swept up in an escalating crisis when Godzilla, King of the Monsters, arises from the sea to combat malevolent adversaries that threaten the survival of humanity. The creatures leave colossal destruction in their wake, as they make their way toward their final battleground: San Francisco”. So is it actually better than I thought or is still as disappointing as I remember it? Firstly, I actually really like the tone of this movie. After watching all the new Mon...
