  Tom Holland returns as Spider-Man for a 4th film, the actor to do so! I thoroughly enjoyed the previous trilogy directed by Jon Watts and was curious where it would go next since Jon was done with it. Hiring the director of Shang-Chi and Wonder Man, Daniel Destin Cretton, two of some of the best post-Endgame Marvel content felt like a recipe for success! Is this a Brand New Day for Spider-Man or a dark day for Spider-Man? What amazes me after watching this film is just how this is the most comic-booky Spider-Man film we have got ever! The amount of shots and visuals that straight-up feel like a comic book panel brought to life is wonderful! Even the way the story is told feels like it with how he fights different type of criminals, interacts with different heroes and faces different challenges.   The Odyssey is an epic fantasy action film written and directed by Christopher Nolan. It is an adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic poem of the same name. Nolan is one of those directors who I am willing to watch anything they do. Considering the amazing films he directed such as The Prestige, Inception, Interstellar, The Dark Knight trilogy and Oppenheimer. I was absolutely hyped for The Odyssey! However, the film suffered a lot of backlash, even before release. Many complained of the casting choices, the costume design not being historically accurate and the modernized dialogue. Are the backlash justified or is the final product better than the complaints? Let’s talk about one of the big controversial stuff, the cast. Yeah, none of them are Greek actors, they are all big Hollywood stars. Now do they all do a great job? Absolutely.   I initially came into this film thinking it would just be some goofy movie aimed at kids. Boy was I wrong! This film is a genuinely well-written, clever and engaging murder mystery! The voice performances are all excellent and the actors all do a great job. It’s also wonderfully shot with a vibrant and colourful cinematography. What elevates this film though is the mature and even dark themes that it explores which was shocking to see in what was a family friendly film. This is an absolute must-watch and the most pleasant surprise of 2026!

  The story is incredibly predictable and some of the lines are very cheesy. However, this doesn’t stop the film from being wonderfully heartwarming. Brendan Fraser gives a believable and empathetic performance as a struggling actor while having a great supporting cast. The film also gives a thought-provoking look into a small part of Japan’s culture while exploring the theme of lies, loneliness and connection. This is a worthy watch that leaves you with a positive message.

  I had a lot of concerns when Daredevil was moved over to Disney. However, Born Again Season 1 ended up being better than expected. It was still definitely the weakest season of Daredevil , but considering the behind-the-scenes creative drama, the final product turned out surprisingly solid. With Season 2, though, the series was fully under the creative control of Dario Scardapane as showrunner. So, does Season 2 finally deliver a more promising follow-up? Yes, it does. The season is far more consistent visually, as well as in terms of quality and writing. It doesn’t suffer from the strange dips in quality or tonal shifts that Season 1 had. The story is much more focused and engaging, making it enjoyable to invest in Daredevil’s struggle and the resistance effort against Kingpin. Watching the characters slowly weaken Fisk’s forces, damage his credibility, and search for evidence makes for a far more entertaining season than the slower-paced nature of the first. There ...

  Michael Jackson was, without a doubt, one of the biggest pop stars in history. It’s no surprise that he was going to get a biopic; if anything, I’m surprised at how long it took. He is one of my favourite artists ever, so of course I was going to watch this film. However, does it live up to his legacy? I remember having a lot of concerns about Jaafar Jackson’s casting. Firstly, it felt like nepotism, with them going for Michael’s own nephew, and secondly, I wasn’t sure whether he could handle the weight of portraying Michael in his acting debut. Those concerns ended up being unfounded, as Jaafar Jackson shines as the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. There are many moments where it genuinely feels like Michael himself is on-screen. He nails the look, the moves, and the mannerisms of his uncle. Colman Domingo is equally effective, portraying Michael’s father, Joseph Jackson, as both detestable and menacing.   Emma Stone delivers a great performance here as a cool, calculating CEO who has been kidnapped by Jesse Plemons’ character. The standout, however, is definitely Jesse, who gives a phenomenally sharp, unpredictable, and layered performance. He brings a level of instability and anger to his character, but also moments of kindness and vulnerability that really work. What carries this film is the tension and conflict between the two, making it a genuinely compelling watch. Additionally, the cinematography and visuals are wonderful, with colours that truly pop, complemented by a music score that heightens the tension. However, what ultimately brings the film down is that it doesn’t quite stick the landing. The ending is predictable and feels a bit too on the nose in delivering its message. Still, this is an enjoyable film that illustrates the dangers of unhealthy delusions and class conflict.

  I was worried when they announced a Zootopia sequel. Judy and Nick already felt like they had a complete character arc in the first film. Those concerns turned out to be unfounded, as the sequel really delivers on their relationship. Even though they had become a solid team and close friends by the end of the previous film, relationships always have bumps and cracks. Judy and Nick care about different things, which leads to meaningful conflict and growth between them. Additionally, the film continues its social commentary on race, introducing reptiles into the mix in a way that works very well within the Zootopia universe. An excellent sequel that feels like a natural evolution of the franchise!

  The simple premise of saving the planet is elevated by excellent writing and wonderful direction. The science is made easy for the audience to understand, the comedy lands well, and the heartfelt, poignant moments hit hard. The characters are all incredibly likeable, too. The cinematography and visuals are stunning, with terrific practical sets and impressive CGI. Ryan Gosling is incredibly charismatic and charming as the lead, Ryland Grace, and the supporting cast are equally strong, with a special mention to Sandra Hüller. The biggest highlight of the film, though, is the beautiful friendship between Grace and “Rocky,” which is easily one of the best bromances in recent memory. Project Hail Mary is what Americans would call a long shot and wow does it land. An absolute must-watch!

  Scarlet is the next animated film from the acclaimed director Mamoru Hosoda, who is notable for films such as Summer Wars, Wolf Children, and Belle. This new film is an alternate retelling of the classic Hamlet. Unfortunately, Scarlet has got to be Mamoru Hosoda’s worst film so far. The story never does anything interesting or new with the material it is inspired by. The writing is bland, the characters are underdeveloped, and the pacing is very uneven. The male lead, Hijiri, is rather irritating and takes screen time away from the titular character. There are also random music and dance set pieces that do not really add anything, aside from being incredibly odd. Additionally, the message of war and forgiveness is constantly and relentlessly shoved in the audience’s face. The 3D CG is also quite wonky and can look visually odd at times.   I thoroughly enjoyed Chainsaw Man Season 1. As an avid reader of the Chainsaw Man manga, I found the adaptation to be terrific. However, I do understand why some people had problems with it. The more Hollywood-style cinematography, muted colours, and slower moments weren’t exactly the tone many people expected from the series. All of that is remedied in this sequel film! The chaotic, fast-paced energy, phenomenal visuals, vibrant colours, stunning musical score, and some of the best action set pieces in an animated film make it an absolute thrill to watch. Not only that, but the story also features great character moments, wonderful emotional beats, and engaging drama. This film is a phenomenal sequel, and I hope the next season retains the style shown here!
