A Review of “Supergirl (2026)”

I enjoyed Superman (2025), even though there were some definite flaws with the film. Still, I thought it was good start to the new soft-rebooted DC cinematic universe. Now, we have the next entry with Supergirl which was based on the phenomenal comic ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" by Tom King which I adore. Is this another step forward for the DCU or a sad step back? Let’s talk about the new actress to play Supergirl, Milly Alcock. I think she does a great job as she is incredibly fun and charismatic as Supergirl. She also really delivers on the more jaded, pained and the slightly quirky nature to the character. There are some emotional moments concerning her past and Milly gives a strong performance that really sells it. The surprise stand-out though is Jason Momoa as Lobo. People have been fan casting Momoa as Lobo for years, including the actor himself. I can safely say that he is absolutely terrific! He is perfect casting and steals every scene he is in by emb...

A Review of “Superman (2025)”

It’s been 12 years since Superman’s last solo outing, and this new film not only marks his return but also launches James Gunn’s revamped DC Universe (DCU). I’ve always had a soft spot for Man of Steel (2013), though Batman v Superman (2016) left me disappointed. So the question is: does this fresh reboot soar or crash? The new cast is superb. David Corenswet had enormous shoes to fill, but he absolutely delivers. He captures Superman’s inherent kindness and warmth, while adding a layer of vulnerability that makes the character feel more grounded and human. Rachel Brosnahan is equally strong as Lois Lane, bringing intelligence and charisma to the role, and her chemistry with Corenswet is genuine and compelling. Nicholas Hoult is a standout as Lex Luthor, delivering an obsessive, petty, and sharply calculated performance. It’s exactly the kind of Lex we’ve been missing. Among the supporting cast, Nathan Fillion is a delight as the cocky Guy Gardner Green Lantern, bu...

A “QUICK!” Review of “Joker: Folie à Deux (2024)”

It is an incredibly poor courtroom drama, an incredibly dull romance, an incredibly abysmal drama and thriller, and a terrible musical. While this movie does have outstanding cinematography and visuals, with a continually great performance from Joaquin, it is just so terrible in every other aspect. The story feels like a complete waste of time and adds nothing while also destroying everything about the first movie. Fans of the first are going to hate this, and it certainly isn’t going to bring in anyone new, either. So it just raises the question of who exactly is this movie for?

A “QUICK!” Review of “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023)“

What a mess of a movie. The visual effects are atrociously bad, the writing and dialogue are terrible a lot of the time, the comedy feels like the force humour you saw in a lot of Marvel movies, the pacing is slow, plot is disjointed and messy with weak character development from Aquaman himself. The biggest disappointment is the villain, Black Manta. He is Aquaman’s most iconic villain but he is so underwhelming in this movie because the plot has some ancient evil king poisoning his mind throughout. He ended up still feeling like a side villain. There are some cool action set pieces, especially the trident fight at the end which had great choreography. Aquaman and Orm having this buddy copy dynamic was fun to watch. It is a shame that this is how the DCEU ended.

A “QUICK!” Review of “Blue Beetle (2023)”

What it does well is have a strong cast with a great main lead of Xolo Mariduena as Jamie Reyes. The costume department and designers also did a terrific job on the suit. When you see it practically, it looks like they brought the suit from the comics to life. There are also some very fun and well-choreographed action scenes. Unfortunately, the writing is just not up to par and suffers from all the cliche tropes of origin movies. The first act is a drag to get through with its slow pacing and the writing for the family dynamic is not funny. The plot is predictable and the villain is another entry in the same as good guy but evil! There is also many question about plot points such as how Jamie is against killing but is okay for others to do it. Overall, it’s a fine movie to kill 2 hours with and at least it’s better than the previous DC entries.

A Review of “The Flash (2023)”

The Flash is a hero I adore from the comics. It is crazy that it took this long for him to have a live-action movie. Unfortunately, the DCEU Flash movie went through development hell. It had multiple directors leave the project, multiple delays, multiple reshoots, the Ezra controversy, and constant changes in leadership at WB. Despite all these shenanigans, does this movie manage to deliver a great Flash movie? Firstly, they do deliver some strong and emotional moments. It’s hard to be angry at Flash for wanting to save his mother and prove his Dad innocent. Seeing Flash cope with the unintended butterfly effects of going back in time and saving his mother, is a great concept. Barry’s desperation to save this timeline because his mother still lives is powerful stuff. It has a heartfelt story of grief which I liked. Funny enough, Ezra has great chemistry with himself. Ezra plays the original and new timeline Barry who both interact with each other throughout the mov...

A Review of “Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023)”

In a current era where the DC cinematic universe is such a mess with no idea what direction it is going; it is hard to care about Shazam Fury of the Gods. Is it even part of the new DCU? It didn’t help that there was a severe lack of marketing for this film and all the Black Adam controversy. However, I enjoyed the first Shazam and was willing to look past the fact that most likely nothing in this movie is going to lead to anything. So is this a strong sequel or another stinker from DC? For the most part, I think the actors do a great job in their roles. Zachary Levi is still charming and charismatic as Shazam. One issue in the first film is that adult Billy (Zachary Levi) and young Billy (Asher Angel) didn’t feel like the same person as their performance felt inconsistent. Asher, despite having a smaller role this time, does a better job of feeling like the same character by performing closer to Zachary’s performance. Helen Mirren plays one of the villains Hespera....

A Review of “Black Adam (2022)”

Black Adam is the 11th film in the DC cinematic universe. There is a weird trend of turning comic book villains into anti-heroes in their solo movies e.g. Venom and Morbius. I would’ve preferred having Black Adam be a villain in a Shazam movie before getting his own movie but here we are. It was promised that it will change the hierarchy of the DC universe but does it? The biggest enjoyment I got out of this movie was the action sequences. The most memorable sequence in the entire film is the fight between Black Adam and the Justice Society. It is choreographed well and visually entertaining. The other action sequences are never as good as that one and the director does overuse slow-mo to a ridiculous degree. Nevertheless, they are still fun to watch. On that note, I enjoyed the Justice Society in this movie. The way Dr Fate and Cyclone are animated is visually awesome. Their costumes are also great, I especially love the design of Dr Fate and Hawkman. I think the ...

A Review of “The Batman (2022)”

The Batman is no doubt one of my favourite superheroes. After the slightly disappointing utilization of Batman in the DCEU, we get another interpretation of Batman from director Matt Reeves. The premise is “When the Riddler, a sadistic serial killer, begins murdering key political figures in Gotham, Batman is forced to investigate the city’s hidden corruption and question his family’s involvement”. So does the film deliver an excellent take on Batman or is it another disappointing utilization? The biggest thing I appreciate about this film is that IT IS a fresh and new take on Batman. One of the iconic titles of Batman is that he is the “World’s greatest detective” but we never see that get explored in any of the previous Batman movies. Matt Reeves focuses on this aspect of Batman throughout with him using his smarts to solve the mystery. Instead of this being the generic superhero movie, it instead feels more like a detective, noir, thriller and I love that. The s...
