A “QUICK!” Review of “One Piece Season 2: Into the Grand Line (2026)”

Season 2 continues to deliver as a faithful adaptation of the manga by bringing all the iconic stories and scenes to life. It was incredibly wonderful to see! There are also some nice changes, such as teasing early plot points that have been revealed in the current manga, showing Zoro’s fight against 100 agents on-screen, and giving Vivi and Baroque Works more to do. I was worried about how they were going to handle Chopper, but that worry was unfounded because he looks terrific! Likewise, the casting of every supporting character, such as Vivi and Robin, is just perfect. Season 2 is simply fantastic. I genuinely cannot wait to see how they will adapt the Alabasta arc in Season 3!

A “QUICK!” Review of “Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc (2025)”

I thoroughly enjoyed Chainsaw Man Season 1. As an avid reader of the Chainsaw Man manga, I found the adaptation to be terrific. However, I do understand why some people had problems with it. The more Hollywood-style cinematography, muted colours, and slower moments weren’t exactly the tone many people expected from the series. All of that is remedied in this sequel film! The chaotic, fast-paced energy, phenomenal visuals, vibrant colours, stunning musical score, and some of the best action set pieces in an animated film make it an absolute thrill to watch. Not only that, but the story also features great character moments, wonderful emotional beats, and engaging drama. This film is a phenomenal sequel, and I hope the next season retains the style shown here!

A “QUICK!” Review of “The Wild Robot (2024)”

This is easily the best-animated movie of 2024. The story and message are incredibly heartfelt and wonderfully done. The theme of family, communities coming together and accepting being different have been done hundreds of times before but The Wild Robot still executes this in such a masterful way that it will still be incredibly touching. The animation and art style are beautiful with many stunning shots. It is hard to believe that this film had a $78 million budget, especially when compared to the $200 million budget of Inside Out 2. Every voice actor does a phenomenal job as well and it doesn’t feel phoned in. This is a must-watch film and I hope Dreamwork continues to give more of this and less of Kung Fu Panda 4.

A “QUICK!” Review of “Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)”

This is still one of the best action movies I’ve ever seen! 2 hours of exhilarating action and practical stunts with phenomenal performances from everyone. You must WITNESS IT!

A Review of “Dune: Part Two (2024)”

I enjoyed Dune (2021) but it definitely felt like mostly setup and world-building. It even ends right when things are about to get interesting. Does Dune Part 2 deliver on all the setup? Short answer, Yes! The story is incredibly engaging and thought-provoking. What makes Dune so special is that it isn’t just a typical revenge or good vs evil or chosen hero-type story. There is more to everything, with very creative dilemmas that our main character has. It does have the typical romance story in the first act but it is handled wonderfully and then used with great effectiveness afterwards. The second and third acts are just phenomenal storytelling. The director, Denis Villeneuve, just pulls you into this world and manages to deliver an emotional rollercoaster experience that will mesmerize you. On that note, every actor is amazing. Timothée Chalamet had to convince the audience that his character was becoming a frightening leader in part 2 and he absolutes excels. Ze...

A Review of “Godzilla Minus One (2023)”

Godzilla Minus One is a standalone Godzilla movie from Japan. It brings the franchise back to its roots where Godzilla is a monstrous force of nature, an allegory of war. While I do love the Western Monsterverse franchise, it is mostly for seeing Godzilla or Kong fight another giant monster. The writing and characters have never been a highlight in that universe. Does Godzilla Minus One deliver more than the Monsterverse? Firstly, Godzilla’s design is spectacularly frightening, his roar is menacing and his heat rays are some of the best and most impactful blasts I’ve seen from Godzilla. Every Godzilla action set piece is terrifying and tense. I love how these sequences are filmed from a human perspective, so we get to truly see the scale and how dangerous Godzilla is. The music score by Naoki Sato is phenomenal! His subtle orchestral score compliments the scene and illustrates the pain and struggles that Japanese people in WW2 went through. He then uses a strong pow...

A Review of “Oppenheimer (2023)”

Christopher Nolan is one of my favourite directors operating today. He makes some of the most entertaining movies in modern cinema. Even at his worst, such as with his last film Tenet, it is still way more entertaining than a majority of movies released. After the Warner Bros same-day streaming debacle they pulled; Nolan left for Universal and this is his first film with them. Does Nolan continue to deliver or has he dropped a big bomb? Cillian Murphy has been a long-time collaborator with Nolan but this is the first time he is the main lead. He is PHENOMENAL as the titular character. He gives such nuance to his performance through body language and facial expressions alone to convey the emotion of his character. It is such a breath of fresh air from the normal yelling Oscar performances you see. He is genuinely perfect at Oppenheimer and if he doesn’t get a nomination for his performance then I will be fuming! One surprising aspect of watching this film was how st...

A Review of “John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)”

John Wick is one of the best action franchises in modern cinema. When John Wick first came out in 2014, it was one of the most surprising yet most enjoyable experiences I had. What is even more amazing is that the 2 sequels it got were also amazing! We are now on the 4th entry and the question is if it continues to maintain the quality it has so far. Let’s get the obvious out of the way, the action scenes are still absolutely amazing! One thing each entry in this franchise continues to do is to make the action bigger and crazier than the last. There are so many incredible actions set pieces with a roughly 30-minute action scene in Osaka with bows and swords, a stunning sequence in Paris with cars and traffic, a Hotline Miami style action sequence with overhead shots, and one of the best action sequences ever involving stairs. I give every single praise to the stunt people who worked on this as they take some very painful falls in this film. This entry is also the be...

A “QUICK!” Review of “Paddington 2 (2017)”

I remember watching “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022)” and the character played by Pedro Pascal says that Paddington 2 is one of the best films ever. He is right… It is rare to have a family movie as well written as this one. It is rare to have a family movie as beautifully directed as this one. It is rare to have a family movie as phenomenally acted as this one. It is rare to have a family movie as wonderfully crafted and designed as this one. It is rare to have a family movie as charming and meaningful as this one. Special shoutout to Hugh Grant’s eccentric performance and Brendan Gleeson for how he says “MARMALADE”. This film is an amazing sequel that can bring a tear to one’s eye, even to adults.

A Review of “Top Gun: Maverick (2022)”

After 36 years, we are finally able to watch the sequel to the 1986 Top Gun. I was a little baffled when they announced they were making a Top Gun sequel as I wasn’t fond of this idea of making sequels to really old movies for the sake of banking on nostalgia. The first film was pretty great and I just didn’t feel like the sequel could be as good as the first one. So is Top Gun: Maverick a cash grab or a worthy sequel? Firstly, the flying scenes are breathtaking! All of these sequences make you feel like you’re in the cockpit and air with them. This is because they did it practically by actually having the actors be in these jets for real. The director fitted cameras into these cockpits and attached them to the side of these jets. This allows for some downright amazing shots and makes the scenes feel more believable. The action scenes are just intense and exhilarating with it having me on the edge of my seat. This is especially noticeable in the final act which is on...

A “QUICK!” Review of “Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)”

Why take drugs when you can experience whatever fever dream this film was? Truly one of the most bonkers and most creative movies I’ve ever seen! Phenomenal performances, great characters, an engaging story, an amazing soundtrack, stunning visuals, cool action sequences, and genuinely funny moments while exploring deep themes and having a touching message that will no doubt resonate with audiences. If you don’t watch this movie then you are committing a crime! One of the best experiences of 2022.

A “QUICK!” Review of “A Silent Voice (2017)”

Trying to do a redemption story for an unlikeable main character is a difficult task. This is one of the challenges that “A Silent Voice” has to deal with it as our main character, Ishida, bullied a deaf girl when he was younger. However, this film succeeds in this whilst also tackling deep themes such as depression, guilt and bullying. One thing this movie avoids falling into is being overly melodramatic. There is some drama and some romance but they are not the central theme. I appreciated that the film remains focused on the problems that Ishida and the deaf girl, Shoko, are dealing with. There are also side characters ranging from the likeable to the unlikeable but even the unlikeable ones have a sort of redemption arc as well. The story being told is just so engaging and seeing Ishida and Shoko trying to overcome their issues was just so wonderful. I was almost brought to tears near the end of this film. This is also thanks to the phenomenal music score and the...
