A “QUICK!” Review of “The Furious (2026)”

Easily one of the best action films of 2026! The fight choreography in this film is so incredible that I was just completely mesmerized! The final act alone is worth watching this film for just how insanely bonkers it is! Go watch this now!

A Review of “The Odyssey (2026)”

The Odyssey is an epic fantasy action film written and directed by Christopher Nolan. It is an adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic poem of the same name. Nolan is one of those directors who I am willing to watch anything they do. Considering the amazing films he directed such as The Prestige, Inception, Interstellar, The Dark Knight trilogy and Oppenheimer. I was absolutely hyped for The Odyssey! However, the film suffered a lot of backlash, even before release. Many complained of the casting choices, the costume design not being historically accurate and the modernized dialogue. Are the backlash justified or is the final product better than the complaints? Let’s talk about one of the big controversial stuff, the cast. Yeah, none of them are Greek actors, they are all big Hollywood stars. Now do they all do a great job? Absolutely. Matt Damon would definitely not by my first choice for Odysseus but he does some a great job in the role. I think he captures the...

A “QUICK!” Review of “The Sheep Detectives (2026)”

I initially came into this film thinking it would just be some goofy movie aimed at kids. Boy was I wrong! This film is a genuinely well-written, clever and engaging murder mystery! The voice performances are all excellent and the actors all do a great job. It’s also wonderfully shot with a vibrant and colourful cinematography. What elevates this film though is the mature and even dark themes that it explores which was shocking to see in what was a family friendly film. This is an absolute must-watch and the most pleasant surprise of 2026!

A Review of “Toy Story 5 (2026)”

When Toy Story 5 was announced, I was very concerned. The first three films are easily one of the best trilogy out there with a beautiful and satisfying ending in the 3rd film. The 4th film, while not as good as the original three, it did still have a strong and emotional ending that felt like a nice wrap up for the whole series. Yet, here we are with a 5th entry that threatens to damage the whole poignant ending. Is this a necessary entry or is this a story not worth telling? What this new entry tackles is something incredibly relatable to our current times. What if kids stop believing in playing with toys and started being more interested in tech? It’s an interesting dilemma and is something that the director, Andrew Stanton, takes a genuine deep dive into. The film doesn’t just portray the new tech, Lilypad, as a straight-up villain and there is a layered exploration of toys and tech. At the heart of this new story is Jessie. She struggles with what feels like h...

A “QUICK!” Review of “The Martian (2015)”

Even when rewatching this film, I had an absolute blast! The Martian is one of the most phenomenal films to come from Ridley Scott. The writing is exception, the acting is great, the visuals are stunning, the music score is great, the science is easily digestible and the characters are all very distinct despite being over a dozen characters. You root for Matt Damon’s character, Mark Watney, to survive. You root for the science team to create the plan to get him home. I enjoyed the science and I enjoyed how it was a collaborative effort from all the characters. Easily one of the best sci-fi films in modern cinema!

A “QUICK!” Review of “Project Hail Mary (2026)”

The simple premise of saving the planet is elevated by excellent writing and wonderful direction. The science is made easy for the audience to understand, the comedy lands well, and the heartfelt, poignant moments hit hard. The characters are all incredibly likeable, too. The cinematography and visuals are stunning, with terrific practical sets and impressive CGI. Ryan Gosling is incredibly charismatic and charming as the lead, Ryland Grace, and the supporting cast are equally strong, with a special mention to Sandra Hüller. The biggest highlight of the film, though, is the beautiful friendship between Grace and “Rocky,” which is easily one of the best bromances in recent memory. Project Hail Mary is what Americans would call a long shot and wow does it land. An absolute must-watch!

A “QUICK!” Review of “Hamnet (2025)”

Hamnet is a poignant exploration of grief. Jessie Buckley is phenomenal in the lead role as Agnes Shakespeare, delivering an emotionally raw and powerful performance. Paul Mescal offers a wonderfully subdued yet layered portrayal of the iconic William Shakespeare. Both actors excel at illustrating how differently people can experience and process grief. The entire supporting cast is excellent, with even the child actors delivering astonishingly strong performances. Hamnet also boasts beautiful cinematography and an incredible musical score. The film is deliberately slow-paced, which may not appeal to everyone. However, if you allow yourself to settle into its rhythm, the story it tells will truly soar.

A Review of “Sinners (2025)”

Ryan Coogler is an incredibly talented director! However, since his powerful debut with Fruitvale Station, he hasn’t made an original film, focusing instead on franchise hits like Creed and Black Panther. While those movies were great, it always felt like a bit of a missed opportunity to see what else he could create outside the bounds of established properties. Now, with Sinners, an original vampire movie, he finally returns to telling a wholly new story — and it’s absolutely worth the wait. The performances across the board are phenomenal. The cast nails the 1930s setting, with many adopting accents that feel natural and immersive. Michael B. Jordan shines playing twin brothers, delivering two distinct characters without overexaggeration. Through subtle body language and presence, he makes it immediately clear which brother is on screen — one serious, one carefree. Delroy Lindo is an absolute scene-stealer, bringing humor and heart every time he appears. But the ...

A “QUICK!” Review of “Blue Giant (2023)”

Blue Giant is an incredible film about passion and Jazz! The animation is superb with amazing use of clashing colours and vivid imagery during their performances. The music is spectacular and even if you’re not big on Jazz like me, the soundtrack will captivate you! The story is incredibly engaging, which is interesting as the director decided to cut out the entire first arc and some backstories that were present in the source material. However, you will barely notice this as what the director focuses is on the emotions and values of the character which works just as well. My only gripe with this film is the use of CG which is a bit jarring. It can go from amazing 2D animation of our characters to 3D which is not that great and mildly distracting. Nevertheless, this is a truly phenomenal anime movie that I highly recommend!

A “QUICK!” Review of “Flow (2024)”

Flow is a uniquely captivating animated movie by Latvian director Gints Zilbalodis. The movie is entirely dialogue-free as our main cast is entirely animals who have to unite after a flood devastates their home. Even without dialogue, the story is straightforward to follow and the character (animal?) arcs are conveyed incredibly well. There is a wonderful theme of unity and connection. I also love all the mysteries within this world that are up to the viewers’ interpretation. The animation is a perfect blend of realism and a painting art style. There is diligent care for the animals as they move and behave like they would in real life. The fact that this was all made in Blender is astounding! The music score is also wonderful. This is an easy recommendation for everyone. It is mesmerizing and easily one of the best movies in 2024.

A Review of “Arcane: League of Legends Season 1 & 2 (2024)”

I am no League of Legends fan. I played it a long time ago but I wasn’t particularly into the lore or story or anything. When I first heard of an animated project based on the game, admittedly, I wasn’t that interested. Not until I saw the first trailer that my curiosity was peaked. Firstly, the animation is phenomenal! The style has this unique hand-painted look to it that makes every frame look stunning! The characters have incredible facial animation that easily allows us to see the nuance in their feelings. The excellent mix of 2D and 3D animation is done in a way that makes the animation here so incredibly unique. I also adore the steampunk meets fantasy world of Piltover and the grimy gloom of Zaun. The show is also elevated by the amazing soundtrack. Every song choice feels purposely chosen to illustrate and elevate a scene to even greater heights. There are many action scenes in the series that are exceedingly well-choreographed and just a blast to watch! W...

A “QUICK!” Review of “Look Back (2024)”

Look Back is a phenomenal adaptation of the manga One Shot by Tatsuki Fujimoto of Chainsaw Man fame. The animation and visuals are incredibly unique yet beautiful. There are so many scenes that are mesmerizing to look at. The music score by Haruka Nakamura is wonderful and helps elevate the emotional impact of every scene. What makes this stand out against other animated movies is the exceptionally grounded and genuine story. It is a bittersweet and emotionally provoking look at pursuing passion while being a coming-of-age story. Even with the short hour-long runtime, the story delivers a rollercoaster of emotions that will definitely stick with you even after it is over. This is a must-watch!
